Jeannette Prince

Passionately working alongside children and teachers as an Atelierista for 25 years was an amazing journey! The opportunity to explore an endless assortment of mixed media through projects, and teaching the children to fall in love with art was priceless.  After retiring I asked myself this question, "Do I retire completely or share with others what I discovered through the years working with children?"  Then it came to me, why not create a sort of Atelier for Atelierista's on the internet?  It could be a go-to place for myself, fellow Reggio inspired Atelierista's, and teacher's to communicate, share and problem solve.  So, the journey continues...  

As a graphic artist and photographer Jeannette has enjoyed working in the Early Child Development field since 1993.  She has earned an Early Childhood Education Master Teacher Certificate specializing in art from Mira Costa College and a certificate awarded by the San Diego Office of Education and the San Diego American Orff Schulwerk Association for "The Introduction to Orff Schulwerk."  Jeannette created her first atelier environment and was self-taught as an Atelierista in the mid 90's, after first being introduced to the Reggio Approach at Del Mar Hills Nursery School (1993-2005) in 1995. The children were her teachers, as research/training for the Reggio Emilia Approach was not readily available at that time.  Jeannette created Encinitas Country Day School's first successful art program inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, 2005-2008, and moved onto developing and designing an indoor/outdoor atelier environment, as the first Atelierista at Aspirations School of Learning in Carlsbad, 2008-2017.  Also, Jeannette had the opportunity to design and build the beautiful documentation panels down the main hallway, and throughout the classrooms of Aspirations.  Through the years Jeannette has had training from many Reggio inspired workshops including three trips to Reggio Emilia, Italy in 2005, 2009, and 2015, and a member of the North American Reggio Alliance since 2004.  She has organized Documentation Display Workshops and One on One inspirational training for Atelierista's requested by Early Childhood Educators from, Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, presented at Aspirations School of Learning.

After retiring, Jeannette found it was too hard to completely stop her career working as an Early Childhood Educator and Atelierista.  An opportunity opened for her to work as a part-time employee at the Hanna Fenichel Center of Child Development in Solana Beach, California.  She now enjoys working with the Transitional 2 & 3-year-olds, and also enjoys sharing her past 25 years experience as an Atelierista with all her co-workers. 

Working part-time opens up many other opportunities for Jeannette to explore and to share her past experiences as an Atelierista.  She is now offering a workshop, "Understanding the Basics of Claywork" with Joyce Schleiniger, to help build confidence and to introduce techniques that will help Early Child Development Educators extend their exploration of clay with young children.
